Overview

LGF storage pools are the supported abstraction for assigning dedicated storage to a bench. A pool is an existing LGF-managed filesystem with a known mount path, volume group, logical volume, filesystem, capacity, and free-space report.

When a pool is selected during bench creation, LGF creates a dedicated bench root on that pool and exposes it at /opt/LGF/<bench>. Persistent Compose volumes are rendered as bind mounts under the bench's volumes/ directory.

Choose a pool during deployment

  1. Open New Bench in the Operator Console.
  2. Select a platform and continue to Bench basics.
  3. Choose an available Storage pool or leave the default system storage option selected.
  4. Deploy the bench.

LGF validates that the pool exists and is mounted before creating the bench root. A pool already assigned to another bench cannot be selected again.

Bench storage layout

A pool-backed bench contains these framework directories:

/opt/LGF/<bench>/
  state/
  runtime/
  rendered/
  images/
  volumes/

The persistent application directories below volumes/ are generated from the platform's rendered Compose contract. LGF does not guess volume names or silently place persistent data in Docker's default volume directory.

Verification

  • The pool is mounted and available.
  • /opt/LGF/<bench> is a bind mount to the pool-backed bench directory.
  • Required framework directories are writable.
  • Rendered Compose uses host paths under the bench's volumes/ directory.
  • Starting a bench fails if its assigned pool is unavailable.

Troubleshooting

The bench refuses to start because storage is unavailable

Confirm that the pool's filesystem is mounted and that the pool path shown in Storage is reachable. Do not create replacement directories under /opt/LGF/<bench> to work around the error; that can hide the real pool data.

A pool is not listed

The pool must be present in LGF storage inventory and have a valid mounted path. Create or mount the pool from Storage, then refresh the New Bench wizard.

The pool is already assigned

Each dedicated pool can back one bench. Choose another pool or complete a controlled migration before changing the assignment.
