Create a share

Windows shares are Samba-backed directories exposed by LGF. Give each share a clear name, select its storage path, choose the share authority, and set the access groups. Keep data for separate applications or teams in separate shares so permissions remain easy to audit.

Access addresses

LGF shows the valid Windows share addresses on each share card:

  • Use the IP address for non-joined or DNS-disconnected clients.
  • Use the AD DNS hostname for domain-joined clients; this supports Kerberos when the client can resolve the domain DNS records.

Use the copy icon beside an address when moving it into Windows Explorer, PowerShell, or the Map Network Drive dialog.

Valid Windows share addresses

The .local host name is not a Windows share address. It is discovery-only and should not be used for SMB mapping. If a client cannot resolve the AD DNS hostname, fix DNS or use the displayed IP address.

Windows client notes

Windows permits only one set of credentials per server name at a time. If a share mapping reports that the server is already connected with a different username, disconnect the existing mapping to that same server name or use the already-authenticated connection. Separate share paths on the same server may otherwise appear to conflict.
